Orpington hens are a heritage breed of chicken.  They are large, heavy, and exceptionally docile chickens renowned for their friendly, calm, and "fluffy" nature, making them perfect family pets and backyard birds. Developed in Great Britain in the late 1800s, they provide good brown egg production. They thrive in cold climates, are very hardy, but often go broody.  Our particular birds are “custom colors” bred by my cousin’s husband in Rowan County NC.
